Kick-off Wichita Habitat for Humanity’s 2023 Build Season

Are you looking for a way to make a difference on MLK Day 2023?

Wichita Habitat for Humanity invites anyone ten or older to volunteer and help kick off its 2023 build season on January 16, 2023. It’s a fun, rewarding way to make it a day on, not a day off!

The Martin Luther King Jr., Day of Service, will bring together 200 volunteers to construct and frame the walls of three affordable Habitat homes. This large-scale event is Monday, January 16, indoors, in the Bob Brown Expo Hall of the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center, 225 W. Douglas Ave. It’s a great opportunity for families, workplace teams, and church groups!

The three families who will purchase the safe, affordable homes later in the spring will be there, too, building alongside the volunteers.

Registration is required here https://tinyurl.com/4zhdn6ar

Volunteers will arrive between 8-8:30 a.m. for instructions and a mission moment. Construction begins at 9 a.m. and wraps up by 11:30 a.m. They’ll also receive a T-shirt.

The completed walls will be temporarily placed in the Expo Hall for a group photo and then transported to the future home sites in Wichita Habitat’s Rock the Block revitalization area.

This annual event provides people with an opportunity to participate in Dr. King’s enduring social justice legacy, learn about the need for safe and affordable housing within our community, and help three hardworking families realize their dreams of homeownership.
