Abstract Floral Design

The art of flower arranging fuses the relaxing benefits of meditation with the creation of palpable beauty.

The act itself focuses the mind just as meditation does, and the process of intuiting the essence of the flowers chosen for the arrangement encourages the mind to contemplate the natural revelations glimpsed in the precision of a stamen, the sheen of a petal, the fusion of leaf and stalk.

Virtually all the senses are engaged in the act–which becomes a sort of mantra–and, as tangible splendor is revealed, stress disappears.

Featuring anthririum, bamboo, and white and wild rice, Joyce Kirk’s arrangement, “Reflection of Space,” received the Amateur Flower Arranging Competition’s First Place Award in the Abstract Design Category at the 2002 Wichita Garden Show.
